Prominent figure Luong Van Can – a patriotic intellectual and educator at the beginning of the 20th century, was the first to conceive the idea of building a team of ethical and skilled entrepreneurs capable of competing with the capitalist class in other countries. His philosophy emphasized the secret to business success as being "honesty and filial piety." The thoughts on commerce by Luong Van Can from over a century ago still hold value, aligning with the principles of the Vietnamese nation and the business mindset of the present era.

Embracing the progressive ideas of the late Can and contributing to the training of future entrepreneurs who understand genuine business, Doanh Nhan Sai Gon Magazine has created a platform for intellectual youth – the Lương Văn Can Talent Award. Established in 2011, the award has gone through 10 seasons, identifying and nurturing hundreds of passionate and talented students, aiming to mold them into skilled business leaders for the future. This initiative plays a part in enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises, contributing to the robust development of the economy, especially in Ho Chi Minh City and the nation as a whole.

In 2023, for the first time, the Lương Văn Can Talent Award is being organized in a new format. After three initial rounds:

  • Round 1: Passion for Business (participants submit video clips for evaluation)
  • Round 2: Professionalism Assessment (online assessment)
  • Round 3: Business Aptitude (direct assessment at the venue)

The organizing committee has selected 20 finalists from 9 universities. These participants will undergo a 2-year training program and will participate in the final competition – defending their business proposals before the Award Council in 2025.

Having been closely involved with the Lương Văn Can Talent Award for many years, Chairman Ngo Vi Dong – a member of the Award Council – has been actively contributing to the search and training of business talents.

In the future, finalists will receive additional training through "Business Talent" courses and, notably, direct guidance from successful entrepreneurs and leading companies in Vietnam.

From the perspective of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT), a member of Vietnam National University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thien Phuc – Vice Rector of the university – expressed appreciation for the committee and praised the significant results that the award has brought to the community and the learning environment. Utilizing existing resources, clubs, and groups, especially the "Startup and Innovation Club of HCMUT," the university is ready to collaborate with the Lương Văn Can Talent Award committee to provide full support to the contestants. The university will officially include the award in its annual work plan and notify students of all faculties to prepare thoroughly and improve their skills.

Over the course of 10 seasons, the Lương Văn Can Talent Award has left a significant impact. With over 25,000 contestants participating and identifying nearly 180 Lương Văn Can talents, many of whom have become successful entrepreneurs contributing significantly to the national economy.
Through its activities, the award has contributed to raising awareness about the role of businesspeople, the importance of entrepreneurs in society, and the economic development of the country. It has attracted and utilized the resources of society to discover, train, and nurture the business talents of the future.
